America’s largest children’s hospital has been providing transgender treatments to children despite promising to stop the practice, according to a new report.
Whistleblower documents released by City Journal on Tuesday purportedly show that Texas Children’s Hospital has continued to provide so-called ‘gender affirming care’ for young gender-dysphoric patients, including the administration of implantable puberty blockers and hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
According to the documents, such procedures were carried out earlier this year, with more future treatments scheduled for June.
The documents also include image grabs of a slide deck that was presented in January 2023 titled ‘Medical and Psychological Care of Gender-Diverse Youth’, in partnership with Baylor College of Medicine, City Journal reports.
The online publication says that the presentation urged doctors to begin sex-change treatments for minors before puberty and consider sex-change options later.

The documents appear to contradict to the hospital’s announcement in March last year that it would stop prescribing gender-affirming hormone therapies.
At the time, the hospital said it had made the decision ‘after assessing the Attorney General’s and Governor’s actions’, after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott directed the state’s child welfare agency to investigate reports of children receiving gender-affirming care as ‘child abuse,’ according to the Washington Post.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton also issued an opinion in February 2022 stating that his office considered certain transgender treatments for children as ‘abuse’.
In a statement released in March 2022, the hospital said: ‘The mission of Texas Children’s Hospital is to create a healthier future for all children, including transgender children, within the bounds of the law.
‘This step was taken to safeguard our healthcare professionals and impacted families from potential legal ramifications.’
This came with the resignation of Catherine Gordon – the hospital’s chief paediatrician and an advocate for ‘gender-affirming therapy’ – according to a report from the Dallas News in April 2022.
However, City Journal’s report has claimed the hospital ‘secretly continued to perform transgender medical interventions’, citing the purported leaked documents.

The publication said it had reached out to the hospital via email, and was told by spokeswoman Kelley Carville: ‘We have no comment.’
In a statement to DailyMail.com, a Texas Children’s Hospital spokesperson said: ‘At Texas Children’s Hospital, our mission is to provide high-quality care for all patients.
‘Throughout the policy debate surrounding gender medicine, our healthcare professionals have always and will continue to prioritize the care of our patients within the bounds of the law.’
According to the documents shared by the outlet, one doctor at the Texas hospital preformed transgender medical procedures on minors whose ages ranged from 12 to 17, with ‘visit types’ listed as ‘gender dysphoria’ and ‘gender identity.’
Another visit was listed for ‘HRT [hormone replacement therapy].’
Another doctor has also been involved in transgender treatments on children, the documents suggest. These included the removal of ‘non-biodegradable drug delivery implant[s]’ for ‘gender dysphoria in pediatric patient[s]’.
Dates listed in the documents against such treatments were throughout 2022 and 2023, after Texas Children’s Hospital said it would cease such practices.
One procedure listed in the documents suggests one appointment was with an 11-year-old ‘female-to-male transgender person’ – three days after the hospital announced it would be stopping gender affirming care.

The documents also describe a 19-year-old who has interest in breast removal surgery, also known as ‘top surgery’ (as it is listed in the documents).
A 15-year-old is listed in the documents as having ‘questions about surgery.’
Release of the documents by City Journal comes as the Texas state legislature is considering a total ban on sex-change treatments for minors.
Were the bill to pass, doctors found to be administering such treatments would risk having their medical licenses removed.
