CAHOOTS clinical coordinator Kate Gillespie stands in one of the vans used to respond to calls in Eugene.

CAHOOTS, Eugene’s mobile crisis intervention program, has suspended medical care to patients, at least temporarily, as the organization seeks to hire a new medical director.

Representatives for the group posted to its Instagram page that it had suspended medical care, including vitals monitoring and wound care, as of Jan. 1.

“While we continue responding to crises related to mental health, behavioral health, substance use, family disputes, resource gaps, and more, we understand the impact on our clients and community partners,” CAHOOTS said in the post.

CAHOOTS stands for Crisis Assistance Helping Out On The Streets. The organization operates as an unarmed mobile crisis intervention team and in recent years has contracted with the Eugene-Springfield Fire Department.
