The Pakistan Maternal Nutrition Campaign project is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), and will target four districts in Pakistan, with the aim to improve to capacity of health care providers and key opinion leaders to advance maternal nutrition interventions. The project is being implemented over a two-year period.

Nutrition International promotes an evidence-based approach to advocacy, decision making, multi-sectoral country planning, and the setting of nutrition agendas. The Global Technical Services (GTS) Unit is Nutrition International’s Centre of Technical Excellence. The GTS Unit, based in Ottawa, leads on the quality assurance of and technical support to Nutrition International’s research and programs to influence and improve national and global policies and practice. Currently, Nutrition International is seeking applications for a Technical Advisor Nutrition – Pakistan Maternal Nutrition Campaignto be based in Ottawa, Canada or Asia (preferably one of the countries in which NI has an office presence).

About you

You are someone with a postgraduate level degree, masters/doctorate, from a recognized university in nutrition or public health (with emphasis on nutrition). Other relevant discipline will be considered with significant relevant experience. You have at least 5 years in programs relating to women’s health and nutrition, and/or maternal health and nutrition, ideally with a focus on low- and middle- income countries. You have excellent interpersonal skills, tact and discretion and sound understanding of girls’ and women’s health and equity issues.

Fluency in English is required. French will be considered an asset.

About the role

Under the supervision of Senior Technical Advisor – Maternal and Neonatal Health and Nutrition (MNHN) GTS, the Pakistan Maternal Nutrition Campaign -Technical Advisor is responsible for coordinating the access to NI expertise and external experts for priority activities. This position will help assure that campaign content, activities and reporting under the Pakistan Maternal Nutrition Campaign Project are technically sound. The Technical Advisor (Nutrition) will be the GTS focal point for the Pakistan Maternal Nutrition Campaign Project. The Technical Advisor (Nutrition) is expected to work closely with NI’s Campaign Project Manager, relevant Senior Technical Advisors within GTS, NI’s Asia Regional Technical Advisors, NI’s Gender and Equality Advisor, as well as the Pakistan based Project team and Country Director to support the quality implementation of maternal nutrition messages, activities, and plans.

In this role you will be:

  • Provide gender sensitive maternal nutrition technical assistance to ensure technically sound campaign content, messaging and activities as guided by relevant senior technical advisors of GTS
  • Coordinate and monitor provision of technical advice by GTS and external experts to project staff in support of the implementation of the Pakistan Maternal Nutrition Campaign annual work plans and budget.
  • Provide guidance and support to the NI Pakistan Field Research and Monitoring Coordinator and NI’s Regional Offices and HQ MEAL team to develop and support the campaign’s monitoring, research and learning agenda.
  • Contribute, as delegated, to knowledge translation documents such as policy briefs, summary briefs, blogs, and case studies on topics that include, but are not limited to, behavior change intervention strategies, gender equality and gender equity issues related to maternal nutrition.
  • International travel between Ottawa/Asia and Pakistan and domestic travel within Pakistan may be required to provide technical advisory services. Duty travel is typically for 1-3 weeks and usually for not more than 40 days per year.
