Laninka Siamiyono, a beauty vlogger as well as a person with disabilities, provides some tips on caring for the body for people with disabilities. He mentioned, the first thing that must be instilled is self-awareness.
“Many of my friends are paralyzed from the waist down, and they automatically can’t feel the wound. As a result, there was even a friend of mine who died because of minor injuries that are not felt. Because it is not treated until the wound gets more prominent and causes death, “Laninka said.
This is where self-awareness is needed for people with disabilities who cannot feel pain. According to Laninka, they must be diligent in checking their body parts so that if there are wounds, they can be treated immediately, for more information: Social Visibility for the Disabled
Using a Lever Mirror
Laninka has a friend with a physical disability who has a particular method when trying to examine injured body parts. His friend used a mirror tied to a stick to reach unseen parts, for example, on the back foot. Thus, the wound can be detected and can be treated immediately.
Laninka told a story; she had seen her fellow wheelchair user who was carrying hot water at that time. When pushing the wheelchair, hot water accidentally fell on his feet. Everyone who witnessed screamed hysterically, but he felt nothing. Although the pain is not pressed, the impact is still there.
Laninka itself is physically disabled due to autoimmune rheumatoid arthritis in which the immune system attacks the joints. Although his feet cannot be used for walking, he can still feel pain if there are wounds on his body.
Do Light Exercise
In addition to diligently examining the body, Laninka also recommends doing light exercise regularly. Usually, he stretches and warms up.
“It’s almost the same as non-disabled people; it’s just that if non-disabled people feel sore, they will sit down if people in wheelchairs feel stiff they usually lie down.
Laninka also recommends drinking enough water. However, for food selection, Laninka claimed not to be too picky. This depends on each person. He often eats whatever he likes.
